Peter J Minich, MD, PhD

Urologist located in Bellingham, WA & Mount Vernon, WA

About Dr. Minich

Dedicated urologist Peter Minich, MD, is excited to be part of the highly experienced team of medical experts at Pacific Northwest Urology Specialists in Bellingham, Washington.

After completing medical school at Queen's University in Kingston, Canada, Dr. Minich finished his urology and transplant training at the University of Toronto. He also completed a PhD in education at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.

Dr. Minich's initial decade of practice focused on kidney transplantation. He served as surgical director of two kidney transplant programs in Chicago and Nashville. At the same time, he completed his PhD in educational leadership awarded with distinction.

Dr. Minich learned during his tenure that the health of the organization and the physician's leadership skills had a profound impact on his patient's outcome. He went on to develop and teach physician leadership training programs worldwide.

Despite his love of teaching, it was the one-to-one interaction with patients that motivated and fulfilled him. He relocated to the Northwest, where he refocused on general urology. His practice philosophy is largely informed by his initial experiences with renal failure patients: prevention is always preferable. And, when treatment is necessary, doing so in the least invasive fashion is best. His practice is exclusively minimally invasive surgery.

Dr. Minich's practice philosophy extends beyond surgery. Patient beliefs, behaviors, and lifestyle choices all have a role in wellbeing and the origins of disease. During his Masters of Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, he focused on research around the mind-body connection. He brings this to the discussion and his approach to patient care and wellness.

Dr. Minich lives with his wife, Leslie, on Lake Whatcom. A reflection of his belief that the environment affects wellbeing, he loves design, architecture, hiking, and skiing. On the weekends, he, Leslie, and their two large breed dogs can be seen combing the markets looking for local ingredients for their culinary creations.
