Urodynamics are a series of functional tests designed to help answer questions about your bladder. A Urodynamics may be recommended for patients with urinary leakage, with nerve damage to their bladder, incomplete emptying, or frequent urination. Typically, the test will help guide treatment decisions.
The test involves urinating in a machine that will measure the speed and amount that you urinate. Then, the amount of fluid left over in the bladder is measured and small catheters are placed to measure how the pressure in the bladder changes during filling and emptying. Others will measure electrical impulses of the urinary sphincter.
The study generally takes about 60 minutes. A nurse specialized in performing urodynamics will be helping during the procedure.
